What do I need to bring to the lodge?

We want you to feel at home at the lodge. Comfortable and durable clothing and gear are highly recommended. We encourage the following items for comfort in the activities we offer. Due to our remote location, there are limited items available for purchase, so coming prepared is the best practice. Laundry is a limited service at the lodges due to remoteness and conservation. The attire inb the main lodge is casual and comfortable—Jeans and comfortable shirts.  Please plan accordingly with the following items:

  • Sturdy, well broken-in comfortable hiking shoes (waterproof recommended)
  • Tennis or camp shoes for the lodge
  • Comfortable clothing
  • Polypropylene or merino base layers and mid-weight layers
  • Mosquito repellent and head net
  • Sunglasses, sunscreen, and sun hat (or baseball hat)
  • Lightweight jacket
  • Lightweight waterproof raingear (pants and hooded jacket)
  • Pile and/or down/synthetic layers
  • At least two changes of clothing (lodge clothes)
  • Warm socks (preferably wool)
  • Swimsuit
  • Lightweight gloves and hats
  • Camera, batteries, memory cards
  • Binoculars, notebook, pen
  • Small personal flashlight or headlamp (mid-August and September)
  • Personal items
  • Casual dinner attire is appropriate for the lodge

Are there bugs?

Yes. In Alaska, we have mosquitos and noseeums. Our lodge usually has a breeze, so we don’t have a bad bug problem. We have bug repellent and head nets available for guests.

What do you recommend for gratuity?

Gratuity for staff is not included in the package price. Gratuity is always at the discretion of the guest. A standard recommendation is 10-20% of the lodge package, or $170 - $340 per guest per day. It may be pre-paid at request.

We “pool” the tips and all staff members receive a portion of the pool.  We prefer that you not tip individually but rather contribute to the pool as all employees play a role in making the trip special.  If you really would like to tip an individual, please do not let that amount take away from the  amount you leave for the “pool”.  The Massage Therapist is the only member of the staff that you can tip individually.

There is a 10-day grace period after booking, where deposits will be refunded in full minus $100 admin fee. What is the weather like?

The weather in Lake Clark National Park can be quite dynamic. Around summer solstice, the sun sets approximately at 11:30 PM and rises again around 4:30 AM, providing just over 5 hours of daylight. The brevity in daylight hours contributes to swift seasonal changes, influencing the weather accordingly. In general the temperature ranges from the mid 40's to the upper 60's through our 4 month season. To ensure you are well-prepared for a variety of weather conditions that may arise, we recommend consulting our Trip Checklist.

As the days get shorter from mid-August through September you might get a chance to see the northern lights, but because the phenomenon is unpredictable there’s never a guarantee.
